The Essence of Sub-Saharan Fashion is a zine I created as part of my final project at Condé Nast College of Fashion & Design. The zine showcases emerging creatives in the fashion and jewellery industry in Tanzania, Kenya, Burkina Faso and Rwanda.
Brand Identity
2023-2024
I researched 13 different fashion and jewellery designers in Kenya, Burkina Faso, Tanzania and Rwanda. I Interviewed a select few of them, aiming to unearth insights into their sources of inspiration, their workforce size, their engagement with local artisans, their community connections, and more. The common thread binding all the designers featured in this zine is their commitment to uplifting their communities, their dedication to environmental sustainability, and their craftsmanship.
Every designer possesses a dedicated section tailored to harmonise with the brand’s unique character and the designer’s personal style. I curated a diverse selection of illustrations, fonts, and design approaches to ensure each page exudes distinctiveness and captures the viewer’s gaze. The central theme explores brand identities, so each spread incorporates the core colours and patterns associated with the different brands, creating an interesting mix of visuals across the zine.
